How to view old InfoPath forms now
Somebody needs a form from 2017: an incident report, a signed-off request, a leaver checklist. The library is still there, but clicking a form no longer opens it.
To view old InfoPath forms after InfoPath Forms Services was removed from SharePoint Online, download the .xml form files from the form library together with the template (usually Forms/template.xsn in the same library) and open them in FormArchive. Each form displays with its original layout on Mac or Windows. You can search across all the forms in a library by any field, then save the ones you need as PDFs or export the whole library to Excel.
Where old forms live
InfoPath submissions are stored as files in a SharePoint form library, one .xml file per form. The browser form that used to open them was a rendering layer on top of those files. With that layer gone, the files are still in the library, and anyone with access to the library can download them.
Forms saved by email or to network drives are the same .xml files, wherever they ended up.
Finding one form among thousands
The library view only lets you sort and filter by promoted columns. FormArchive searches every field of every form in the folder you load, so you can find the incident report that mentions a particular site, or every request from one department in 2019, even when those details were never columns in SharePoint.
Keeping them readable for the next request
Viewing a form once solves today's request. Exporting the library to PDF and Excel solves the next ten. PDFs open on anything and can be filed in your records system with the retention label they need; the spreadsheet lets you answer questions across all the forms at once. See our guide to archiving after the InfoPath retirement.

FAQ
Are my old InfoPath forms deleted?
The retirement removed the service that rendered forms in the browser. The submissions are ordinary files in the form library and remain subject to your normal retention settings.
Can I view a form without downloading the whole library?
Yes. Download one .xml file and the template and open them in FormArchive. For repeat requests, exporting the library once is faster.
Who can view the forms?
Anyone with read access to the library can download the files. FormArchive runs locally, so viewing a form doesn't share it with anyone.
